Today would have been Jessi Zazu Wariner's 31st birthday. Jessi, most well known as the singing, guitar shreding, songwriting female powerhouse at the front of Nashville's southern punk & indie band, Those Darlins, unfortunately however passed away at the age of 28, after losing an 18 month long battle with cervical cancer. In her absence, Jessi's energetic positive attitude, hard work towards social justice, and her uniquely insightful, sometimes brutally honest songwriting has not lost its power. Her work continues to hold positive influence over her friends & family, her community, and her still growing number of supporters around the world. We have her music, artwork, and words to help us through these undeniably troubling times, but she has also left the world with one of many ways to channel our energy and financial power towards the progressive change we long for. After her passing in 2017, Jessi's friends and family created Jessi Zazu, Inc. as a memorial to her life and an ongoing way to carry on her social justice work in her local community and beyond. Both songs presented here were originally written and performed by Those Darlins. They are free for anybody to listen to, but if you would like to show your support by downloading the songs here, all proceeds (including any amounts over the asking price) will be donated directly to Jessi Zazu, Inc. after any amount that Bandcamp takes out. We will also be creating a physical 7" containing these two songs packaged with the same amazing artwork that you see here, an original painting by our friend Camilla Robina. All money generated from the sale of these records will also be donated to Jessi Zazu, Inc. Please note that you can purchase these singles here, but they are PRE-ORDERS that we will use to determine how to press the 7"s. Our plan is to do a very small run of lathe cut records and make the packaging ourselves. If we do receive more orders than expected (which would be rad!), we will have a slightly larger run professionally pressed by an outside company. You can expect shipment by early September and will be updated concerning any delays.
Thank you so much for listening!!! Please keep up the good work and look out for each other during this time of necessary growth. With love and solidarity,
